The European Union intends to stop buying Russian coal and oil this year, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, writes The Indian Express.

“Now we are pursuing a very ambitious policy to reduce our dependence on imports of fossil fuels from Russia. We will stop importing Russian coal this summer, we will phase out Russian oil before the end of the year, and we will greatly reduce gas imports from Russia,” he said.
Scholz noted the consequences for the world economy of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine. In particular, it affects the supply of wheat and food security around the world.
“Germany, as chair of the G7, supports our partners in mitigating the effects of Russia’s war on global food security,” Scholz added.
President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed impose sanctions against every statewhich will help Russia trade in oil.
