The EU budget and the rule of law. Exchange of views between Radosław Sikorski and Janusz Kowalski

In the Sejm, there was a polemic about the EU budget between Janusz Kowalski, MP of Solidarity Poland, and Radosław Sikorski, MEP of the Civic Coalition. – You are the first team of the Ministry of Justice in any European country that is against the rule of law – said Sikorski. Kowalski demanded that “the opposition should behave loyally to Poland and speak in accordance with its interests.”

Member states did not reach unanimity on Monday on the EU’s multi-annual budget and decisions regarding the recovery fund. Poland and Hungary raised reservations regarding the regulation on binding EU funds to compliance with the rule of law. The regulation was adopted by qualified majority of the Member States.

Kowalski: Today Poland is being blackmailed by Germany

The deputy minister reminded the KO MEP that in January 2009 Gazprom stopped sending gas to Poland, and Poland was blackmailed. – Back then, the late President Lech Kaczyński, whom you were also a collaborator, and also PiS, President Jarosław Kaczyński, in a situation when Poland was blackmailed by the Russian Federation, stood on the side of the PO government, because this is the Polish raison d’état, said Kowalski.

– Today, Minister, and you were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Poland is being blackmailed by Germany – added Kowalski. Sikorski replied that Poland was not blackmailed. – Poland simply lost the vote once again – 25: 2 – because you lose successive votes because you cannot negotiate – said the MEP.

“Please do not piss Poles against the European Union”

– If someone is blackmailing someone, and today Germany and Brussels are blackmailing us, wanting to introduce a regulation that is inconsistent with the European treaty, it is your duty – as a Polish citizen and former foreign minister – to stand on the side of the Republic of Poland – the politician asked Sikorski in response Solidarity Poland.

In response, Sikorski reiterated that PiS had lost the vote in the EU. – Please do not rush Poles against the European Union – he appealed.

Kowalski came back to 2009. Sikorski replied: “that is why today we have declared that we will help you vote the Reconstruction Fund”. – Please thank you for that – added the MEP.
