The EU allocates one million euros in aid to Cuba after the passage of Hurricane “Ian”

MADRID, 8 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The EU Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, announced on Saturday the sending of one million euros in aid for those affected by the passage of Hurricane “Ian” through western Cuba.

“Hurricane ‘Ian’ has had a devastating impact on Cuba and it is estimated that 100,000 homes have been affected. Today the EU will donate one million euros to support those affected. These funds will be used for immediate needs of the most vulnerable “, highlighted Lenarcic in a message posted on Twitter.

The money will go to EU humanitarian partners in the area to provide temporary emergency shelter, water and sanitation.

Hurricane ‘Ian’ killed at least two people in the western Cuban province of Pinar del Río and displaced more than 50,000 people in the west and center of the island.

Brussels recalls that the province of Pinar del Río, the most affected, is still without electricity, which makes it difficult to supply water and restore communications.
