Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Last weekend, the Commodity Futures Trading Supervisory Agency (Bappebti) of the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) decided to establish a crypto exchange.
Head of Commodity Futures Trading Development and Development Bureau (PBK) Bappebti Tirta Karma Senjaya, said the mechanism is almost the same as the stock exchange.
Investors or customers are still transacting at crypto asset traders who will facilitate buying and selling crypto as it is today. The crypto exchange will later consist of all members of crypto asset traders who are integrated with the crypto exchange and clearing and depository systems.
Thus it will make it easier to monitor, evaluate and disburse funds in a more real time as well as security in depositors of customers’ crypto funds and wallets.
“So it’s almost the same as the stock exchange, there are stock brokerage companies, KSEI custodians and KPEI clearing,” Tira told CNBC Indonesia via text message.
According to him, the existence of a crypto exchange will also help in creating crypto derivative products. Thus the stock exchange will act as an extension of the regulator, as the first layer of oversight of regulatory compliance.
This crypto exchange, he continued, will be a risk controller against fraud attempts and other security attacks as well as compliance in fighting illegal activities such as money laundering, terrorist financing and others.
In a different statement, CoFTRA appointed PT Bursa Komoditi Nusantara as the manager of the crypto exchange, in accordance with the Decree of the Head of CoFTRA No. 01/BAPPEBTI/SP-BBAK/07/2023 dated 17 July 2023.
Tira said that for further details, wait for the plan to launch the crypto exchange on July 26.
