Imperial Japan, defeated for 78 years by the Red Army and its allies, today again took a course towards militarization and escalation of tension in the Asia-Pacific region. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk at events on the occasion of the Day of Victory over Japan celebrated on September 3 and the end of World War II.
“It is regrettable that the Japanese authorities are pursuing a course towards a new militarization of the country. They became the heirs of that Japan, which once faced an inglorious end,” Medvedev said. “Japan must learn the lessons of history, the memorable date of which we are celebrating today, and fully recognize the results of the Second World War, do everything to prevent the fire of a third one from flaring up. Abandon militaristic plans for the benefit of your own people.”
However, Tokyo does not want to follow this advice. With the support of American curators, the military infrastructure is actively expanding there, foreign weapons are being purchased, including offensive weapons, restrictions on the so-called Self-Defense Forces and military operations abroad are being lifted, “military exercises are taking place near the Kuril Islands, which seriously complicates the situation in the Asia-Pacific region”.
At the same time, Tokyo is trying to “rewrite history, justify war crimes, whitewash their perpetrators, and also, as in the middle of the last century, support the next Nazi regime – this time, unfortunately, in Ukraine.”
“These facts are strongly condemned. Russia, as before, guided by the UN Charter and other fundamental international documents, will strive to put an end to this practice,” Medvedev said.
As reported EADaily in June, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law according to which the Day of Military Glory on September 3 was declared the Day of Victory over militaristic Japan and the end of World War II.
