La Tejerona prepares to resume its activity as a sports center. The Gijon pavilion, which housed people without resources or a home since the beginning of the alarm and during the pandemic, fired its last two users yesterday Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
From the Asturias Red Cross, entity that has managed this space with the help of other associations, the City Councils of Gijón, Oviedo and Aviles, and civil protection, make a positive balance of the emergency resource launched.
“It was a technical solution for confinement in accordance with the law and in decent conditions. A resource that has been adapted to the needs that have arisen and that had to include health, food and psychological support services. It has been 77 days of an intense experience ”. This is how he has expressed it in BE Gijón the coordinator of this device, David del Valle, regional director of the area of health, relief and emergencies of the Asturias Red Cross.
Del Valle has highlighted the joint work between entities and administrations demonstrating the good gear of social services in Asturias, and has described how they tried to turn an emergency situation into an opportunity “to find out more about these people and to know how existing resources can be better adapted”. Regarding the use of the resource, the pavilion did not have never a full occupation (108 beds) mainly to maintain the safety distance.
All its users have been rehoused in other spaces with “à la carte” solutions. Very personal and focused on their profiles. There are people who have been fortunate enough to find work. Resume the relationship with relatives, get a place in a public service or start a rental of an apartment. The work of the psychology and social services staff has been very important ”.
David del Valle has stated that in case of regrowth “the device is available from today. If necessary, it will be activated and we will also do it with good practices and lessons learned that we have made clear in these seventy-seven days ”.
