The Epic Farewell: Kiss Rocks Cologne in Their Last German Concert

“Cologne, we will never forget you!” With these simple yet emotional words, Kiss frontman Paul Stanley (71) says goodbye to his band after 50 years on stage. On Sunday evening, July 2, 2023, Kiss will be giving their second concert in Cologne – and it will be the last Kiss concert that will ever be held in Germany.

After 50 years, the old rockers say goodbye to the big stage with a gigantic show. It’s an evening that the fans and certainly the band will remember for a very long time.

No wonder the Lanxess Arena is sold out to the last seat. For this, the rockers got the Sold-Out-Award as the crowning glory.

“Anyone who knows the KISS shows knows that a superlative farewell awaits us here! The fans can look forward to lots of pyro, spectacular music and an unbelievable atmosphere! We’re proud that the big farewell to the German fans is being celebrated here and we’re happy about a completely sold-out house!” said Locher before the show.

But the elderly rockers show absolutely no sign of parting pain or grief throughout the show. Quite the contrary: They come on stage with the usual make-up, thick platform soles and heels – on which, mind you, some (much younger) women could not walk a meter – and put on a show that is second to none.

Kiss rocked the sold-out Lanxess Arena for a proud two hours, playing 18 songs from 50 years of band history – including “Detroit Rock City” (1976), “I Love It Loud” (1982), “Lick It Up” (1983), “Calling Dr. Love” (1976), “Black Diamond” (1974), “Beth” (1976) and “Rock And Roll All Nite” (1975). And of course, the band’s most well-known song, “I Was Made For Lovin’ You” (1979), should not be missing from their last concert in Germany.

Kiss really heat up the Lanxess Arena

The show is not only accompanied by the dazzling costumes, the make-up and the glittering guitars of the musicians, but also by a whole lot of pyrotechnics – with almost every song it pops and hisses, flames rise and sparks fly.

And the huge stage alone, with extendable platforms and the four larger-than-life statues of the band members Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons (73), Tommy Thayer (62) and Eric Singer (65), is an experience in itself. You don’t really know where to look first.

And then there are the fans, some of whom are dressed up really well, like Nina (40) and Thomas (56) L., who want to be very close to their idols one last time at the big farewell concert in Cologne.

Kiss frontman Paul Stanley flies unsecured through the arena

That the concert in Cologne is a goodbye forever and that the Kiss musicians will retire after the end of their “End Of The Road” world tour in December, there is no sign of it on Sunday evening in Cologne.

Take our survey here:

Show Kiss: Rock’n’Roll is alive! Frontman Stanley, who at the age of 71 still jumps across the stage in mega high heels, only flies with his foot in a ring from the main stage for “Love Gun” and “Black Diamond”, once across the arena to the other Ending on a smaller stage, all unsecured and not batting an eyelid.

And at the end of the concert, before they say goodbye to the German fans, the frontman, as befits a real rocker, smashes his guitar and throws the fragments across the stage.

Kiss say goodbye and say goodbye to Germany

At the end of the evening, the fans go home with a laughing and probably also a crying eye. Saying goodbye forever is never easy, but the four gentlemen from Kiss turned their farewell into a mega party and gave their young and old fans many great new memories of 50 years of band history.

The last Kiss concert in Germany was a spectacular, loud, eventful and exciting evening that will definitely not be forgotten in a hurry.
