The last time Cristiano appeared in the EA Sports saga was in FIFA 19, as a Juventus player; while Messi would appear in eFootball PES 2020, the last edition of the game that came out in physical format, and which saw the Argentine star appear on the cover for the first time since 2011.

During the second decade of the 21st century, FIFA vs Pro was also an all-out fight, but online gaming and, especially, the success of FIFA Ultimate Team began to gradually tip the balance more clearly. For many it was the best era in the history of virtual football, an unparalleled duel that began to take shape in the 90s and had its highest point in the first decade of the 2000s. EA Sports and Konami giving the maximum: gameplay, licenses, charisma, game modes and the infinite possibilities that players received year after year. We each had our favorite, but it was in the 128-bit generation and, especially on PlayStation 2, where this battle reached its peak of epicness. Neighborhood tournaments, meet-ups with friends where seeing each other was a mere excuse to enjoy FIFA or Pro duels from dawn to dusk. An era that passed and will never return, just like a duel that is now video game history, and in which EA Sports FC and eFootball do not aim to face each other like their predecessors.
