The 1.6 engine, jointly developed by PSA and BMW, is called EP6 on French cars, on Mini – Prince N16B16A, on BMW – N13. The units are produced in both atmospheric and turbo versions. But the malfunctions of different versions of this engine are similar.

What’s inside?

The engine has an aluminum cylinder block with cast iron liners and an aluminum two-shaft cylinder head.

Naturally aspirated versions are equipped with multi-point fuel injection and have variable intake valve lift (Valvetronic), which allows you to actually leave the throttle. Phase shifters are mounted on both camshafts. The power of the atmospheric version of the engine does not exceed 120 hp.

Supercharged engines often have a single intake phase regulator, are not equipped with the Valvetronic system, and air is injected into the cylinders by a twin-scroll turbocharger. The power can reach 200 hp. and up.
