The registration of songs for the Eurovision Song Contest has started

Riga, October 7, LETA. The application for songs for the Latvian Television (LTV) song contest “Supernova 2022” has started, the winner of which will have the opportunity to participate in the 66th International Eurovision Song Contest in Italy, LTV communication manager Anita Jansone informed LETA.

Songs can be applied for until December 7.

LTV Program Director Jana Semjonova pointed out that after a long break, the competition “Supernova” returns to LTV, and the most important goal is to find the best song that will be performed at the Eurovision Song Contest in May 2022 in Italy. “I look forward to the new performers and songwriters who still want to break into the Latvian popular music industry, as well as to the songs of already experienced and popular authors,” said the LTV representative.

Performers, authors and producers who have reached the age of 16 are invited to participate in the competition. Applications from soloists, duets and groups (up to six participants) are welcome. The regulations stipulate that foreign citizens may participate in the competition as producers of the phonogram of a song. The submitted song may not have been published or played publicly before September 1, 2021.

The entry of songs and performers in “Supernova 2022” television broadcasts will be determined by a jury selected by LTV. LTV also reserves the right to invite performers and authors to participate in the competition. We will announce the next round in December this year.

In 2019, the winner of the “Supernova 2020” competition and the opportunity to participate in the 65th International Eurovision Song Contest in the Netherlands was won by Samantha Tina, but the Eurovision Covid-19 was unfortunately canceled due to the pandemic. Taking into account the results of “Supernova 2020”, LTV decided not to hold a new selection competition, but to allow Samanta Tina to represent Latvia at the Eurovision 2021, where she remained in one of the last places.

The international competition gathers millions of viewers around the world every year on TV screens. Latvia will participate in the competition for the 22nd time.
