Tens of thousands of Britons and tourists from around the world are in London from this Thursday to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. Some have even been there for days with their tent to have a chance to see the sovereign.
Let’s go for four days of celebrations of the reign of Queen Elzabeth II in the United Kingdom. It’s the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, 70 years after her coronation, and Britain and Commonwealth countries are in turmoil. Four days of festivities are planned in tribute to the 96-year-old monarch. “Over 200,000 local events and block parties across the UK over the four days of the weekend” will take place according to the government.
The celebrations begin this Thursday morning from 11:00 a.m. French time, with the traditional military parade of the “Salut aux couleurs”. The royal family must on this occasion appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace around the sovereign, a highly anticipated moment.
“Important to be there to feel their fervor”
The Queen’s biggest fans spent the night outside Buckingham Palace to secure the best seat and have a chance to catch a glimpse of the Queen. This is the case of Sandrine, whom we met, and who came from Rennes for the occasion.
“She may not be our queen, not our story, but I think she’s part of everyone’s story. I studied in England, the English we love them… So it’s important to be there to feel their fervor.”
Tens of thousands of people from all over the world are expected to take to the streets of London to celebrate, and Sandrine knows she’s going to have to pull together if she wants to have a chance to see something.
“I know that I may not necessarily see much from the top of my 1.60 m. but to be there and to feel the state of mind, the atmosphere that will reign there. I think it will be a beautiful moment.”
The queen, quite weakened in recent years, could make at least two public appearances for this platinum jubilee, notably on the balcony of Buckingham, which will be scrutinized by the eyes and cameras of the whole world.
