A representative of the Marriott International press office confirmed that the brand’s five-star hotel in the centre of Warsaw is no longer part of the portfolio of the world’s largest hotel company. This information was reported earlier by the daily “Rzeczpospolita”.
The spokeswoman noted that the decision to part ways with the owner of the facility – LIM Center – “was made after a thorough analysis, and the current priority is to ensure that the change process runs as smoothly as possible for guests and employees.”

Katarzyna Gospodarek did not explain why the changes were made. She only emphasized that “our principle is to conduct business in accordance with the highest standards, responsibly and in accordance with the law, including respecting the confidentiality of contracts and agreements with our business partners.”
Asked whether it is known when the sign with the brand name will disappear from the building in Al. Jerozolimskie, she replied that the hotel company “expects the owner of the facility to replace the markings in due time.”
At the same time, the spokeswoman assured that Poland remains an important market for Marriott International.
Our local portfolio includes 23 hotels and our development plans include opening 10 more properties in the next few years, she wrote.
The Warsaw Marriott Hotel was opened in 1989 (after 12 years of construction) as the American company’s first facility in Eastern Europe. Designed by Polish architects: Tadeusz Stefański, Jerzy Skrzypczak and Andrzej Bielobradek, it became a symbol of the capitalist world and free-market transformation. Guests had access to over 520 rooms, including a two-level luxury presidential suite, where the presidents of the United States, visiting Poland, usually stayed, as well as stars of the stage such as Michael Jackson, Luciano Pavarotti, and most recently Taylor Swift.
Marriott International began operations in May 1927 when J. Willard and Alice Sheets Marriott acquired the A&W Root Beer franchise. During the first years, the company focused on developing catering services. It was not until thirty years later that the owners opened their first lodging facility, the Twin Bridges Motor Hotel in Arlington, Virginia. Over the following decades, the company developed, investing in new facilities in the US and then abroad. In the second half of the 1990s, Marriott acquired The Ritz Carton Hotel Company and the exclusive Renaissance Hotel Group, the owner of facilities in Europe, South America, Asia, the Middle East and Australia. The company currently has 9,000 properties in 141 countries. It is listed on the American stock exchange.
