The end of internal combustion engines? Save Ferrari and Lamborghini, asks Italy

The planned end of internal combustion engines for 2035, outlined by the European Commission, has not yet been approved, but Italy is already looking for ways to protect supersport manufacturers from it. These include, for example, the Italian brands Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani, which have not yet switched to electrifying the portfolio.

“The Italian government supports the Commission’s commitment to reduce emissions in this way, but there is a gap in the car market and discussions are under way on how the new rules would apply to car manufacturers who sell a much lower number of vehicles than regular manufacturers,” said Roberto Cingolani, Minister for ecological transformation, in an interview with Bloomberg TV.

“Those cars need very special technology and they need batteries for the transition. One of the important steps is to make Italy independent in the production of high-performance batteries, so we are now launching a gigafactory program to install a very large battery production plant in Italy, “said Cingolani, adding that the 2035 deadline is up to 2035. too big a challenge.

In 2020, Ferrari sold approximately 9,100 vehicles, while Lamborghini sold about 7,400 units. Already, small series producers are favored in terms of fines for the carmaker’s fleet emissions.
