Gareth Bale, little used by José Mourinho at Tottenham, where he is on loan from Real Madrid, is approaching “the end of his career” at 31, his agent, Jonathan Barnett, admitted on Wednesday.
“He’s nearing the end of his career. But really, you would have to ask Mourinho,” Barnett replied when asked about his protégé’s short playing time.
Barnett noted that Bale “has won more trophies abroad than any other British player,” with four Champions Leagues for example in his record.
He spoke those words at the “Financial Times Business of Football Summit,” a series of online football conferences organized by the City newspaper.
Since his return to London in mid-September, the Welsh player has participated in just 16 games, ten of them as a starter, scoring four goals.
At Real Madrid he had been left without playing, largely affected by repeated physical problems, and more was expected of his return to Tottenham, the club where he gained prestige between 2007 and 2013.
