Yesterday, the National Olympic Committee celebrated the activities of the ninth edition of the National Sports Day initiative under the slogan “The Emirates Unites Us,” in the presence of a record number of participants amounting to 77,230 participants from all segments of society, according to the official website of the Sports Day, thus raising the total number of the initiative exceeding the previous edition of the event, which reached The number of participants is 70 thousand.
The main event, organized by the Olympic Committee in cooperation with Shabab Al-Ahly Club, was held with wide community participation, in which schools led the way with 5,000 male and female students. They applied the principles of fair competition in a number of individual and team sports.
The event began with a sports march presented by members of the committee’s Board of Directors, members of Shabab Al-Ahly Club, and a number of athletes, public figures, and school students, in the presence of media representatives. After that, the program of events was opened, which included various competitive matches for the sports of volleyball, football, and badminton, in addition to a number of events. Among the fitness exercises supervised by specialists from the entities participating in the prominent community event.
The ninth edition of National Sports Day witnessed a number of sporting events in various parts of the country, during which activities, initiatives and programs varied, with the participation of all age levels, as the percentage of the men’s category reached 23% of the total number of participants, 20% of employees of various agencies and institutions, and 16% for women, and it reached 23% of the total number of participants. The participation rate for children was 21%, while the participation rate for people of determination was 10% of the total number, and 9% for the elderly.
Fares Al-Mutawa, Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee, stressed the importance of the event in embodying the values and principles of the Olympic movement within sporting practices and major events. It is characterized by community participation, whether from the elderly or families, as well as the special category of people of determination, which contributed to doubling the number of sporting events with the launch of the ninth edition and the endeavor of all parties to organize more accompanying activities and register them on the website, which witnessed a great turnout with the actual start of the event.
Fares Al Mutawa appreciated the directives of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, and His Highness’s affirmation that practicing sport is a societal culture that our wise leadership has strengthened and provided it with the appropriate environment that encourages its sustainability and increases its percentage while spreading the positives resulting from it among all groups.
