It is an ambitious project which will support the growth of the activity of the Laon hospital center. The latter has experienced strong growth in its number of emergency room visits for several years (36,000 visits in 2023). The emergency reception service must therefore have new reception capacities with areas increased by approximately 30%.
The ARS had already announced aid of €2 million to the Laon hospital in 2021 to enable the restructuring and modernization of its emergency department, and additional aid of €2.5 million was allocated by the ARS so that this project can be carried out successfully. Short-term hospitalization capacity will increase from 4 to 6 beds, examination boxes from 4 to 6 and discharge beds from 2 to 4. New waiting areas will allow more comfortable reception of patients.
Adult and pediatric emergencies will be grouped together in the same location to facilitate the sharing of equipment and simplify the reception circuit for unscheduled patients. A space dedicated and adapted to the care of the child will be set up in the current premises, while guaranteeing a specific circuit. The renovation will also make it possible to create a Telestroke treatment room designed to improve the care offered.
Thanks to obtaining funding from the ARS, the hospital center will be able to launch the phases of competitive bidding between companies. The first work should begin at the end of 2026 for delivery estimated in 2028. Patient reception will continue to be ensured during this period.
