“The emergency room is very overcrowded”

The situation in Quebec’s emergency rooms remains critical, with occupancy rates in several hospitals remaining high.

Of the 16 regions of Quebec, 11 of them overflow. On this list, we find in particular the North Shore, in Gaspésie, which normally does not have such a high rate.

“It’s another tough start to the week,” said Dr. Gilbert Boucher. “It’s difficult for the nursing staff, but also for the population, the emergencies are overcrowded, the patients have difficulty accessing a bed.”

Dr Gilbert says he noted a slight drop in hospital occupancy when the construction furlough was launched, but hospitals filled up quickly.

The hospital staff is at the end of its rope, the new measures put in place by Minister Dubé do not satisfy the employees, nothing is going right at the hospital located in the east of the city.

“It’s shameful for the province of Quebec that it’s been 25 years that we have been using forced labor with the women who treat us,” explains the president of one of the hospital staff unions. “We will have to solve this problem, and Mr. Dubé is making the problem worse by setting conditions that harm the workers even more.”
