About halfway through the flight, health problems proved too acute to continue flying to Manchester. The pilots then decided to make a stop in Bilbao before flying over the Bay of Biscay in the United Kingdom. Air traffic controllers were initially unaware of the reason for the unexpected landing in Bilbao, but they became clearer once the plane was on the ground.
The 200 passengers were able to get off the plane for an urgent matter or simply to stretch their legs.
The technicians managed to solve the annoying technical problem and after an hour the Airbus managed to take a route to Manchester.
