Efforts to patch the broken embankment using sand filled sacks in the Lamicitra industrial area of Tanjung Emas Port, Semarang are continuing. It is hoped that the patching can be completed by this Friday afternoon.
The Head of Semarang Police, Kombes Irwan Anwar said that the process of patching the embankment is still ongoing. He was also at the location to help with the process of handling the broken embankment.
Irwan said the patching process was carried out jointly by members of the TNI and Polri. Materials are sent using fishing boats departing from Tambaklorok.
“We are still continuing the process of repairing and revamping the embankment from the sea. Hopefully it can be completed before Friday prayers,” said Irwan from the embankment location, Friday (27/5/2022).
He also mentioned that in addition to repairing the embankments, draining water in areas affected by the tidal wave was also carried out. Irwan hopes that the water will recede quickly and people can carry out their normal activities.
“Another thing is to drain water in the area in Lamicitra. Hopefully it will dry up soon and people can carry out their usual activities,” he explained.
Regional Head 3 of Pelindo III, Ardhy Wahyu Basuki, said that in the Lamicitra area there were two embankments that had broken, namely 20 meters long and 8 meters long. The levees that have been installed have been able to block water from entering, but now they are being raised.
“It’s closed sandbag, already on the water. The embankment will be 3 meters high,” said Ardhy.
To note, since Monday (23/5) extreme tidal waves hit the coast of Central Java, including the city of Semarang. At Tanjung Emas Harbor and its surroundings, it was exacerbated by a broken embankment. Currently, the patchwork is being carried out by preparing 3,600 sandbags.
