The Elfrun Gabriel Foundation: Supporting Outstanding Young Pianists in Memory of a Renowned Pianist

The Elfrun Gabriel Foundation, founded in 2012 in memory of the former, internationally renowned pianist, supports outstanding young pianists. Every year, a jury selects two musicians from among the best piano students at the Leipzig University of Music and Theater “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy” and supports them with an annual scholarship. The two young pianists are supported in a variety of ways at the beginning of their careers, for example with participation in international competitions and performance opportunities, traditionally also at the TU Ilmenau. This year the two music students Yeram Park and Daon Choi received the coveted scholarship.

The South Korean Yeram Park, born in 1996, studied in the capital Seoul and in Munich before coming to the “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” University of Music and Theater in Leipzig for the master class of Prof. Christian A. Pohl. In addition to numerous other prizes, she won second prize at the International Piano Competition in Épinal, France, and the Classic Pure International Piano Competition in Vienna. Yeram Park gave numerous piano concerts at music festivals and for radio broadcasts, including in Germany, France and South Korea. After an audition, she was accepted into the funding of the Elfrun Gabriel Foundation.
