The electricity in the new capital will never go out

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – PT PLN (Persero) is still conducting studies related to the construction of an electricity system in the location of the new capital city, namely Penajem Paser Utara Regency and Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan.

Business Director of the Sulawesi and Kalimantan Regional PLN Syamsul Huda said, in the design of the electricity system procurement in the new capital city, his party would follow roadmap which has been prepared by the Ministry of National Planning and Development or Bappenas.

One of the important points emphasized in the construction of the electricity system in the replacement area for DKI Jakarta is the reliability of electricity. The plan, the electrical system new capital city will never go out, like at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.

“Electricity in the new capital, electricity that does not go out. This is not impossible, because currently the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, the electricity has never gone out,” he said in a virtual press conference, Friday (23/10/2020).

To realize this vision, PLN will follow exactly the electricity system currently used by the Merdeka Palace, namely not only relying on one power source.

“So there must be several sources that can mutually be used back up. The disturbances still exist, but we are trying to mitigate the impact of the disruption so that the electricity does not result in all PLN customers in the new capital city, “said Syamsul.

In addition, in order to continue to support the concept Green City carried by Bappenas, PLN will prioritize electricity sources that come from environmentally friendly power plants, such as hydropower plants (PLTA).

“In the new capital, we also do not use cables that are not aesthetically pleasing in the new capital city, so we will build the network below,” he said.

However, Syamsul admitted that in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the progress of planning for the development of the electricity system in the new capital was hampered.

“We have not coordinated for a while about the continuation of the electricity development plan there. Because we are all still busy how to deal with this pandemic,” he said.
