Just weeks after showing off a dramatic electric pickup concept that will rival the Ford F-150 Lightning at CES in Las Vegas in January, Ram has now revealed the production version.
Called the 1500 REV, the model is more than similar to its combustion counterpart, essentially being an electric version of the Ram 1500. It shares the same shape as the standard combustion engine model, with the main differences being an updated front and rear that mimic the concept’s modern styling, including futuristic lights, grille, new logo and custom wheel design.
A limited view of the interior is currently available, but the cabin appears to be unchanged from the petrol 1500 apart from the addition of a passenger-side head-up display similar to the one on the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Like its competitors, the Ram also comes with a front boot.
Ram previously said the pickup is built on the new STLA Frame platform, aimed at utility vehicles and body-on-frame electric vehicles. It promises to offer more than 500 miles (804 km) of all-electric range, but it’s not confirmed that such a number will apply to the new model.
While towing capacities have yet to be released, the automaker has said it tops the competition, suggesting the car will be able to tow more than the 4,535kg offered by the Chevrolet Silverado EV and Ford F-150 Lightning, and may even surpass the Tesla Cybertruck’s claimed 6,350kg .
Ram will start American orders in February, the brand is not active in the European market.
The Tesla Cybertruck is scheduled to go into production at the end of 2023
