At the beginning of this year, Mercedes introduced the elegant Vision EQXX studio, and now it has taken a record drive. The futuristic car body boasts an extra low drag coefficient of cx 0.17. The car weighs 1755 kilograms, is powered by a 180 kW electric motor and draws energy from a 100 kW battery – so except for the easy flow of air, the basic parameters do not deviate much from current electric vehicles.
However, the concept uses a 900V architecture and the driven rear wheels are said to receive up to 95 percent of energy. He saves money with a solar panel on the roof or 20 “wheels in a 185/65 tire. Bridgestone special footwear has a rolling resistance factor of 4.7, while the current highest class A in European tire parameters requires only 6.5.
The record-breaking ride started in Sindelfingen, Germany, and led through the Swiss Alps to Cassis on the Côte d’Azur in France. On the road in normal traffic, the Vision EQXX met everything that any road user could encounter on the road – motorways with up to 140 km / h, traffic restrictions, alpine hills, temperatures from 3 to 18 degrees Celsius and, of course, other cars.

The Mercedes Vision EQXX covered 1,008 kilometers in 11 hours and 32 minutes, with another 140 kilometers left in the battery. The final consumption was only 8.7 kWh / 100 km. Mercedes will use the knowledge of this drive and the technology used in the EQXX in its future models.
