The electric drive Volvo EM90 is the technical twin of the Chinese Geely brand Zeekr 009, but will cost significantly more.
The Volvo minivan differs from the Zeekr 009 with Volvo-like headlights, an original grille design and an illuminated brand logo, while the basic structure remains the same. Both minivans have identical body side panels, similar dimensions and are also manufactured at the same plant.
The Zeekr 009 is equipped with two e-motors with a total power of 544 hp (686 Nm), while the Volvo EM90 has a single electric motor of 272 hp (343 Nm) that drives the wheels of the rear axle. With a fully charged 116 kWh battery, the EM90 will be able to travel up to 738 km (according to CLTC).
The Volvo minivan is 5.4 m long and has a 3.2 m wheelbase. Seating formula: 2+2+2, but the package includes an active noise reduction system, a 15.6-inch screen, two-chamber pneumatic suspension, tires with a reduced noise level, “club chairs” of the second row of seats with massage, ventilation, heating, a separate climate zone , extendable tables, etc. for comfort options. To this can be added a panoramic roof, a virtual instrument panel, wireless charging for a smartphone, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system with 21 speakers and a projection screen. By the way, all this is also offered by Zeekr.
The manufacturer informs that charging the battery from 30 to 80 percent takes 30 minutes, in addition, the EM90 is endowed with a function that, if necessary, allows the energy to be transferred to another e-vehicle, electric scooter, bicycle or any smaller consumer.
The Volvo EM90 will go on sale in China in March and will cost 818,000 yuan (more than 106,000 euros).
The main market for the Volvo EM90 is Asia, but the Swedish brand does not rule out the possibility that their minivan could also appear in Europe and the United States. In this case, there will be no competition for the EM90 from the Chinese partner, because the Zeekr 009, which is more powerful, similarly equipped and endowed with a larger power reserve (822 km), while remaining significantly cheaper (converting from yuan to 64-75 thousand euros), is not planned for the European market.
