The electric car from Audi Sport is being revealed, it promises a new dimension of the RS

We already know what the new Audi e-tron GT will look like – it will be a low four-door carwhich, with its silhouette, strikingly resembles a taycan. It’s no coincidence – it shares the technical basis, including the 800V powertrain architecture. According to the technicians, however, the mood will be different, and therefore the driving performance will be different.

However, it will still be sporty. The carmaker promises acceleration to one hundred in less than 3.5 seconds and a top speed, probably electrically limited, of 250 km / h. The battery has a total capacity of 93 kWh and a usable 83.7 kWh, which should be enough for a range of more than 400 kilometers according to the WLTP measuring method.

The silhouette of the GT e-throne is very dynamic, a bit reminiscent of the Audi A7.

In addition to battery capacity, we also know the performance with confidence. The car has all-wheel drive, one electric motor on each axle. The front one has 175 kW / 243.4 hp, the rear one is stronger with 335 kW / 455.6 hp. The combined maximum power of the car is 440 kW / 598.4 hp and the highest torque is 830 Nm, in the short term during the so-called overboost power increases up to at 475 kW / 646 hp.

Performance can be tamed by a brake system with three different types of discs. The basis is standard steel and for an additional fee, carbon-coated discs will be available, which have been specially developed for electric vehicles and better handle the combination of regenerative braking by an electric motor with conventional friction brakes. The highlight, for a larger surcharge, are, of course, the carbon-ceramic brakes we have known from high-performance cars for a long time.

According to the lower part of the rear bumper, aerodynamics will be extremely important for the e-tron GT.

The chassis will receive three-chamber air suspension, which will have, in addition to the classic Comfort and Sport, also an eco-mode. In it, the chassis will be closer to the asphalt to reduce the air resistance of the moving vehicle and it would consume less energy.

Of course, the vectoring of the torque on the individual axles and together with the battery located in the floor between the axles – the center of gravity of the car is lower than in the R8 supersport – the e-tron GT is really promising in terms of driving characteristics. What it will really be like, however, we have to wait for the first ride.

It is also worth mentioning the car’s cooling systems. There are a total of four circuits, one of which works only with the battery and one with the control electronics. However, they can be connected by different valves and the car does so to keep the battery at the optimum temperature.

It can handle fast charging with an output of up to 270 kW with direct current, but at such numbers it heats up significantly. The carmaker connects such a charge to driving at a speed of 250 km / h on the highway – the battery requirements are roughly the same, but when the car is charging, it stands and no air flows through the radiators. Therefore, the cooling must be very efficient.

Charging will be possible with an output of up to 270 kW.

A complete unveiling of the new car is scheduled for January next year. Until then, we will certainly learn more information.
