Despite the wave of discounts, electric cars are still too expensive. However, a novelty has appeared in the Czech Republic, which you can have for the price of a basic Fabia. Some limitations are obvious at first glance, but we found features in which the ElBlesk Pony even surpasses the small Škoda.
The new cheapest electric car has appeared on the Czech market. He tells himself ElBlesk Pony and at first glance it may look a bit funny. Anyone who would guess that this is another French moped car with a maximum speed limit of 45 km/h would be wrong. Although the Pony is registered as a heavy road quad, it has power of 25 kW and will start at 100 km/h. So it’s not an asphalt ripper or a highway cruiser, but it can handle the city and its surroundings without any problem. This was confirmed to us during two weeks of driving, when we drove hundreds of kilometers with the small car.
Despite the Czech name, the pony has its origins in China. It is there that dozens of similar models have sprung up in recent years. The trend started three years ago with the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, which has already sold over 1.2 million units, and was soon followed by almost every major automaker out there.
The company ElBlesk from Klato brings the pony to the Czech Republic, which makes modifications to the car for more demanding local customers. The electrical installation or chassis needs to be improved. The flashlights are not primitive lead, as many would expect, but lithium from the world’s largest manufacturer CATL, as in much more mature electric cars. And similarly to Tesla, your local mechanic can also do service maintenance for you.
Before we bring the classic test, you can watch the video where we explain some basic facts about the non-traditional Czech-Chinese novelty. You will learn how the car drives, what are its disadvantages and, above all, how much it can actually be purchased for.
