The EHC Freiburg starts tonight in the new DEL-2 season

Start against the Heilbronn Falcons in the Echte Helden Arena

For a long time, players, managers and, above all, fans of EHC Freiburg waited and feared for this moment. Now the runners are actually scratching the ice again. The new ice hockey season begins on Friday evening (November 6th, 2020) at 7.30 p.m. – and DEL 2 is the first professional league to start in the 2020/2021 season. The wolves celebrate the season opener with a home game against the Heilbronner Falken, without spectators but motivated to the tips of their hair. The successful squad from the previous season could largely be kept together and not a few trust the Wolves to perform as well as last year.

Difficult season preparation due to Corona

The wolves were only able to play five of their seven scheduled preparation games, as positive corona tests on their opponents prevented the games against Memmingen. Four times, the Breisgauer were able to walk off the ice as winners and, among other things, defeat the self-proclaimed championship contender from Ravensburg 7-1. Only against last season’s main round champion, the Löwen Frankfurt, it was a 2-1 defeat.

Injured people, newcomers and farewells

Today’s game against the Falken can also be booked as a real top game. Last year’s third from Freiburg will meet fourth from Heilbronn. The Breisgauers will miss the long-second injured strikers Cam Spiro and Chris Billich, as well as defender Nick Pageau – all three are absolute top performers at the Wolves. To compensate for the loss of the trio, attacker Skyler McKenzie from the North American AHL and young talent Ryan Del Monte were committed.

Captain Philip Rießle and record player Tobias Kunz announced their departure from professional ice hockey after the corona-related termination of the preseason. Striker Luke Pither is also not returning to Breisgau for private reasons. For this, among others, in Sweden Andrée Hult and Jordan George, two real top-class strikers were committed.
