The EFS launches an urgent appeal for blood donation

Two weeks before the summer vacation, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) Occitanie is sounding the alarm about the state of blood bag stocks in hospitals. “Our collections continue to attract fewer donors with 102 bags of blood less than the target (ie – 2.3%). Our stock is becoming very critical with only 9.4 days in advance”, indicates the EFS site from Tarbes.

A situation undoubtedly linked to the particular context of this month of June: with the regression of the Covid-19 pandemic and the easing measures taken by the government, citizens are savoring the taste of rediscovered freedom, of the resumption of leisure and restaurant activities. Added to the summer weather of recent days, obviously, all this does not encourage donors to rush to the collection sites. 90% of French people are convinced that it is important to donate blood but only 4% do so every year, according to the French Blood Establishment (EFS).

“We are counting on the mobilization of everyone during this period”, launches Sonia Barbe, secretary of the EFS Occitanie in Tarbes and responsible for promoting donation. We hope that the people of Gers, and the tourists who will be staying in our department in the coming weeks, will hear this message of solidarity.
