The Effects of Three Days of Food Abstinence on Your Body

Health expert Max Posternak revealed the body’s reaction to the lack of food for a full 3 days, a topic that aroused interest, due to the spread of the “intermittent fasting” diet, which calls for not eating anything for long hours, and limiting meals in a short time.

What happens after you abstain from food for 3 days?

After 6 to 10 hours of fasting, most of the remaining glucose still circulating in your bloodstream will be used as fuel.

If you used to eat 3 meals a day or you regularly eat a high-carb diet, you will be feeling hungry and low in energy levels by 10 o’clock.

This hunger pain will subside after a couple of hours and your body will naturally adjust to this new information (not eating).

Between 12 to 16 hours of fasting, your body will continue to deplete its glycogen stores while also increasing its reliance on ketone bodies. You may feel a little cold now because your body is not digesting the food. It will improve digestion, cholesterol and reduce inflammation.

After 16-18 hours of fasting, your body will begin autophagy, which is an automatic recycling process where it begins to get rid of any junk it detects whether it’s damaged proteins, bacteria or dysfunctional cells.

After 24-32 hours of fasting, your body will get rid of glycogen and rely entirely on its own fat stores for energy.

Your brain still needs glucose to function, so your body finds ways to make it happen, usually by separating triglycerides from your fat stores into glycerol and free fatty acids that will help you not break down muscle tissue yet.

Your body will get most of the energy and glucose it needs to maintain your muscles from body fat and will boost human growth hormone in the process.

After 32 hours you will notice significant weight loss, but this is mostly part of the water loss from the depleted carbohydrates as well as the fat loss.

Once you reach 3 days of fasting, the process of boosting immunity, autophagy, and reducing inflammation continues. But the negatives are starting to outweigh the positives. A 72-hour fast is difficult for most people without any medical help.

The body will also begin to break down muscle tissue and that can begin to cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies and digestive problems.
