The effectiveness of artificial intelligence in mental health: between hope and reservation according to a new study

In a recent study conducted by the Columbia University School of Nursing, it was found that the majority of participants believe that artificial intelligence can be useful in the field of mental health care.
This study, in which there was a sample of 500 adults in the United States, showed that 49.3% of participants believe that artificial intelligence is useful for mental health care.

However, attitudes differed according to socio-demographic characteristics. Black participants and individuals with lower mental health ability were more likely to believe in the benefit of AI, while women were less likely to share this view.

One of the main issues raised in the study is concern about the accuracy of the diagnosis of AI-based devices, the use of inappropriate treatments, privacy issues and the loss of personal interaction with the healthcare provider.

The results also showed that 81.6% of participants believe that the responsibility lies with the health care provider if a misdiagnosis occurs using artificial intelligence tools.
Based on these findings, the researchers suggested developing strategies to increase transparency and communication with patients about the accuracy of AI-based devices and how their data is used safely, to increase patient trust. in their health care providers to maintain.
