Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Immunization specialist Elizabeth Jane Soepardi said that the effectiveness Covid-19 vaccine against new variants of any type including the Delta variant from India, decreased. However, the decrease in the effectiveness of the vaccine is not up to 0 percent.
“All vaccines against any variant, including the Delta one, have decreased their effectiveness,” said Jane in a virtual discussion that was broadcast live on the MNC Trijaya Youtube channel, Thursday (1/7) afternoon.
Jane asked the public not to bother with this. The Covid-19 vaccination does not really prevent people from getting infected with the Corona virus.
However, people who have been vaccinated when exposed to Covid-19 do not experience serious illness and tend to avoid the risk of death.
“So we don’t need to be afraid or disappointed, already vaccinated and still infected. No,” said Jane.
Jane also noted that the figures showing the effectiveness of all vaccines currently in use were invalid.
This is because the vaccine effectiveness figure is the result of a clinical trial conducted last year on non-variant or original samples of the Covid-19 virus.
Meanwhile, the viruses that are spreading and being faced by society today are new variants such as Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta.
“So the numbers don’t match up now,” Jane explained.
However, Jane encourages people to keep vaccinating and not to choose the type of vaccine to be used.
All existing vaccines, said Jane, are still effective, both for the original virus and the new variant.
“All vaccines are still effective for all variants and non-variants,” said Jane.
As for some of the symptoms felt after the vaccine, said Jane, are side effects and not a direct effect of the vaccine. These symptoms are recorded and researched by experts.
The authorities will also immediately revoke the circulation of vaccines that have direct post-vaccination effects, one of which is blood clotting.
Meanwhile, regarding the presence of people who died after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine, it is not certain whether these deaths are directly related to the vaccinations carried out.
“Until now in the whole world there is no evidence that those who died or who were seriously ill were the result of the vaccine. So the important thing is that we are enthusiastic about looking for the vaccine, don’t be afraid,” he said
