The editors require all clarifications and refer to the editorial statute.
The chats of editor-in-chief Rainer Nowak that have recently become known have sometimes led to serious irritation within the editorial team. On this occasion, the editorial staff of “Presse” emphasizes that our editorial team is made up of self-confident members who work independently every day and are distinguished by the journalistic quality that distinguishes “Die Presse”.
On behalf of the editorial team, it is stated that the red line is not only overcome with criminal actions and that contacts with political decision-makers must never be used to affirm one’s personal interests. In particular, the news of our newspaper must not be influenced by anything other than journalistic criteria. In this sense, we welcome and support the internal examination of the allegations against Nowak, initiated by the owner, Styria Media Gr., Who has suspended his duties as editor-in-chief and editor, as a step in the right direction. We ask for full clarifications.
“Die Presse” is bound by its editorial status: “represents bourgeois liberal views at a high level regardless of political parties”. In addition, “Die Presse” has clear compliance rules: “Employees prevent editorial publications from being unduly influenced by private or commercial interests of third parties.” The private or commercial interests of employees “must have no influence on editorial content”.
