Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived at the “St. Alexander Nevsky” memorial temple to pay his last respects to Patriarch Neophyte.

“We came to honor Neophyte for the last time. He was our beloved brother. We pray to God for the repose of his soul and for the election of his successor, who will be the spiritual father of all Bulgarians,” said the ecumenical patriarch, quoted by Nova TV.

The Canterbury Archbishop Justin Welby, spiritual head of the Anglican Church, offered his condolences for the death of the Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte in London, BGNES reported.

“I am very sorry to learn of the death of His Holiness Patriarch Neophyte. I know how important he was as a spiritual leader and figure to many of your fellow citizens and I am sure he will be greatly missed,” the letter said.

Archbishop Welby will pray for Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

“I would be very grateful if you would convey my condolences to the members of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in London and to the clergy at the Patriarchal Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Sofia,” his letter, sent to the Bulgarian Embassy in the United Kingdom, said.
