The Ecstasy of Music: Exploring Friedrich Nietzsche’s ‘Dionysian Magic’

Don’t we all crave ecstasy and intoxication? Ecstatic experiences are part of human existence. Music in particular enables and reflects such intoxicating experiences. Friedrich Nietzsche already conjured up the “Dionysian magic” of music, the ecstatic power of musical intoxication. The music lesson is on the trail of these human dissolutions in music: from the bacchanalian dance or the dizziness of a tarantella, to the sound rush of symphonic apotheoses to the rush of love on the opera stage or the spiritual rush of magical organ sounds.

The audio files and manuscripts of the individual episodes will be posted online later this week!
