/ world today news/ The European Commission understands and accepts the desire of Bulgaria to determine when the choice for the appointment of a new Bulgarian representative in the EC will be made.
This became clear at a joint briefing of the Bulgarian head of state Rumen Radev and the chairman of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, the press office of the head of state announced.
“There are different options before us. Either the interim government appoints this commissioner with all the consequences for the election campaign, or we wait for the already elected new government to make this decision. I thank Mr. Junker for his full understanding and willingness to wait,” said President Radev.
“I fully understand Bulgaria’s desire to decide to propose its representative to the European Commission after the next parliamentary elections,” said Jean-Claude Juncker. We have not discussed specific names, my only suggestion was that a woman be nominated for this post, added Jean-Claude Juncker.
The Chairman of the EC welcomed the efforts made by Bulgaria and the huge progress achieved under the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism and confirmed his expectation that it will be abolished by the end of the mandate of the current European Commission.
