/ world today news/ The European Commission opened a violation procedure against Bulgaria in the field of public procurement and concessions. Brussels has also warned our country that it will file a case in the EU court if it does not provide guarantees that it fulfills the European rules for combating cybercrime within 2 months.
The Bulgarian authorities are late with the implementation of the new European legislation related to public procurement and concessions. The regulations introduce more transparency and require that application procedures must be submitted online. In addition, they make it easier for small and medium-sized companies to bid for public procurement and increase competition, the European Commission explained, BNR reported.
In another ongoing criminal proceeding, Bulgaria receives a final warning before going to court in Luxembourg. The European Union did not receive sufficient guarantees from the government’s explanations that the so-called “directive on combating cybercrime”. It criminalizes the use of cyber-attack tools such as malware and computer viruses. The legislation also requires Sofia to strengthen arrangements for the exchange of information in the event of attacks and provides a common European criminal law framework in this area. Bulgaria has 2 months to respond to the warning.
The European Commission insists that Bulgaria and 14 other EU countries fully implement one or more of the three new directives on public procurement and concessions in their national legislation.
