There is a very easy way I have found that can be used for this. It uses Siri voice commands. First you need to activate the Siri function. Go to Settings > Siri & Search. It’s more convenient to turn on the “Hey Siri” toggle and the “Allow Siri while locked” toggle. It’s also a good idea to turn on the “Use Siri by pressing the side button” option.
All settings are now complete. The next time you need to restart your locked iPhone, say Hey Siri or press the side button, then click ‘Restart’, ‘Restart my iPhone’, or ‘Restart this device’. Just say ‘Restart this device’. Now Siri will confirm once more, just tap ‘OK’ or say ‘yes’.
Here’s how to restart without using Siri.
- On iOS 16-compatible devices with a home button, such as the iPhone 8, 2nd gen SE, and 3rd gen SE, long-pressing the side button will bring up a slider to power off. You can press it to restart.
- In the iPhone 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and beyond, it’s a bit more complicated. Quickly press the volume up button, then the volume down button, then press and hold the side button. A slider to turn off the power will now appear, and you can use it here. Alternatively, hold down the side button to restart your device.
You can also turn it off in Settings > General > Shut Down. But compared to all these methods, the easiest way to restart is by far Siri.
