The Easy Sign to Tell If Your Skincare Products Have Expired That You Might Be Ignoring

There is a very simple way to tell if your lotions, creams or serums have expired and you might overlook it.

There are people who collect several half-used skin care products, and others who use a small number of products for too long. Regardless of which category you belong to, you should know that you can easily notice if you have creams or lotions that have passed their expiration date. Kiehl’s Skincare experts quoted by Womanandhome pointed out that products degrade slowly over time, even when stored correctly. Some last less than others, depending on the ingredients, preservatives, how they are packaged or how they are stored in the house.

What is the main sign of expiration?

The most important sign that a skin care product has expired is sudden onset. It’s about the itching it causes when you apply it. If you happen to experience itching and irritation shortly after using a skin cream, then it’s time to replace it with another one within the expiration date.

Remember!

Write down on each skin care product the date on which you unseal it or the date on which it will expire, calculated according to the period noted on the packaging, from one month to three years, recommended to be observed from opening.

Other signs to look out for in order to throw away an expired care product in time are: unpleasant or different smell, change in color or texture of the product.

Why not use a product even once if it has expired?

Once you notice any type of change, lotions, creams or serums should be replaced and their use avoided. The reason is, first of all, their inefficiency. Active ingredients break down over time and there is the potential for chemicals to change.

An expired sunscreen, for example, won’t protect you as well as an expired one. Moreover, the altered products may contain harmful bacteria, and their transfer to the skin could cause, especially for those with sensitive skin, redness, rashes and even eye infection, in the case of those for the skin.
