According to the representatives of the “Easy” foundation, this year the field of cultural potatoes in Pārventa Park in Kuldiga is dedicated to doers – people who have created the spiritual position of our nation with their achievements and serve as an example to others.
This year, one of the busiest inhabitants of nature – bees – is adding to the cultivated potato field. The bee house, which will have a bee colony of about 10,000 at the beginning of the summer, was created in cooperation with beekeeper Uģis Mālnieks. In addition to the existing art installation, visitors to the picnic area “Even bigger table above my table” can see fragments of the exhibition “Where the Earth It”.
“We were looking forward to the third season of cultural potatoes, because several activities involving people are planned at the field in Pārventa Park. In June we will open three ‘nurseries’ – small houses – right next to the field of cultural potatoes, where there will be an exposition about big Latvians “will be able to get acquainted with the work of Ēvalds Valters, Aleksandrs Čaks and Zenta Mauriņa,” says Emīls Lukjanskis, the head of “Kartupeļu Lauka Radio”.
Potato varieties “Brasla” and “Magdelēna” are traditionally planted in the field of cultivated potatoes. In addition to potatoes, white clover and sunflowers are also sown. The field of cultural potatoes continues to develop as a cultural place in Kuldiga, which entertains and leads to explore the values expressed in Imants Ziedonis’ work “Kurzemite” in an unusual way.
