The east of Australia was hit by a heat wave, with temperatures in several parts of the country exceeding 40 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
In New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and South Australia, temperatures have reached 42 degrees in the morning.
In Sydney, temperatures have risen above 40 degrees in the afternoon and the city is expected to remain so until Sunday afternoon.
As summer approaches in Australia, this season is the first heat wave in the east of the country.
The Fire Service has declared a high risk of scrub fires in a number of places in New South Wales, banning the burning of fires altogether.
