A magnitude 6.6 earthquake shook the Kermadec Islands, a region north of New Zealand, the US Geological Survey said.
The quake was 33 kilometers deep, the Geological Survey said.
The US tsunami warning system said the quake was not expected to cause high waves, BTA reported.
The Kermadec Island Group is located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean and is owned by New Zealand.
The islands are located 800-1000 km northeast of New Zealand and over 1200 km southwest of the Tonga archipelago
