The earth is no longer enough for them. Technology giants are waging a fight for space

Amazon boss and the richest man in the world, Jeff Bezos, has been interested in the universe for some time. His other company, Blue Origin, wants to create a satellite network called Project Kuiper from a total of 3,236 satellites in the orbit of our planet.

According to current plans, the New Glenn rocket should launch next year. The satellite network should be used to spread the Internet, but also to spread services directly to Amazon across the planet. These are mainly cloud services, which have experienced a huge boom in recent years.

Cloud services basically function as external storage on the Internet. Businesses use them to move their work agendas to reduce their storage costs and software for a monthly fee. Everything is basically taken care of by remote computers of companies that offer cloud services.

Microsoft will be in space sooner

Of course, he didn’t want to like the American Microsoft, which is vying with Amazon for the dominant position of cloud services on the market. The company therefore entered into a partnership with the space company SpaceX Elona Muska.

“Microsoft is taking another huge leap in cloud computing – we are heading into space. We’ve brought together a team of renowned space veterans to work with our product engineers and scientists to create cloud capabilities that meet the unique needs of space, ”said Tom Keane, who is in charge of cloud services at Microsoft.

Thanks to the partnership, 800 Starlink satellites will spread Microsoft Azure cloud services from the starry sky to our planet. That’s why the whole project was called Azure Space. “We will unblock cloud computing for all the inhabitants of the planet,” Keane added.

In the future, the Starlink network will ensure the problem-free coverage of the entire planet by the Internet signal. With this ambitious project, Musk wants to finance his other space activities, especially the planned trip to Mars.

Nokia will build a network on the moon

The Finnish company Nokia is also going into space. It is to build the world’s first mobile network for the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). In practice, this should be a traditional fourth-generation network (4G), which is commonly used in the Czech Republic, for example. It is used not only to transmit voice calls and text messages, but also to spread the mobile Internet.

However, NASA has set a condition that the entire network must be upgraded to 5G in the future. Thanks to this, the astronauts would get a fast mobile connection, the construction of which is already in full swing on the planet Earth.

Nokia will receive USD 14.1 million (CZK 328 million) from NASA for the construction of the first monthly mobile network. However, various technologies will be supplied to other Earth’s nearest natural satellites by a total of 12.

NASA has set aside a total of $ 370 million for the construction of its technological facilities, ie CZK 8.6 billion.

Building a mobile network is part of the US space agency’s efforts to return humans to the nearest natural satellite on our planet. According to current plans, this should happen by 2024.
