The Dutch Seek Cooler Climes for Summer Holiday: Effects of Extreme Temperatures on Physical Well-being

The Dutch are again flocking to warmer climes this summer holiday. In southern Europe it is getting hotter, while those high temperatures are not good for our physical well-being at all.

“In human paradise it is 22 degrees,” says professor emeritus Evert van de Vliert (University of Groningen). The extreme temperatures in popular holiday destinations such as Greece, Italy, Spain and the South of France are anything but paradise, says Van de Vliert.

The retired scientist examines the effects of different climates on who we are as human beings. “For example, we should think about the question: if the climate changes, how will we change ourselves?”

Are you thinking about a holiday in a cooler place? Or will you ‘just’ go south again next year? Let us know and participate in the statement of the day.
