MADRID – We regularly write about prefab homes and tiny houses in Spain because there is a lot of demand and interest. These types of houses are becoming increasingly popular as a second holiday home or as a first home or as extra guest accommodation or office space in the garden. Sometimes you can’t beat the prices, such as the Wikkelhouse model that is produced in the Netherlands and is made of wood and cardboard. This house is already for sale from 40,000 euros (ex VAT).
Wikkelhouse describes itself as a ‘smart house with big plans’ and it can serve as a holiday home, an extra guest house, office space or why not as a second home in Spain. According to the website, wrap house a friendly Scandinavian design with a perfect finish and the house is made of sustainable materials that are almost 100% biodegradable.
Wikkelhouse is not a permanent prefab house but can be adapted and enlarged to your heart’s content, as it consists of segments of 1.2 meters deep, 4.6 meters wide and 3.5 meters high. These can easily be attached to each other and also disconnected if necessary. If you need more space, add one or two segments and your prefab house will be 2.4 meters longer. Bathroom, shower and kitchen are added through the Home segments.
wrap house is made of sustainable wood and cardboard. The construction and the interior is made of wood with flax on the outside as insulation to keep out the noise, but also the cold and heat. The house is then ‘wrapped’ in corrugated cardboard because that makes the prefab house extra strong, after which the house is finished with pine panels. Cardboard is also much more durable than wood and much lighter. Of course you can also install solar panels on the roof. Thanks to the light construction materials, each segment weighs only 600 kilos, less than a car. Thanks to the segments, Wikkelhouse can be placed anywhere, possibly without a foundation.
Wikkelhouse has been produced in the Netherlands since 2016 and you may have come across one. There are wrapping houses on Texel, in Gorssel, in Apeldoorn and in Noorden. If you want to ‘test’ a Wikkelhouse first, you can always book an overnight stay because there are Wikkelhouse holiday addresses in Ouddorp, as Wikkelboat in Rotterdam and to chill out at The Unbound in Amsterdam. All information can be found on the Dutch website and watch HERE lots of photos on the facebook page.
