The Dutch government is tightening up travel advice for all of Belgium

The Dutch government has tightened up travel advice for all of Belgium. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has set the neighboring country to ‘code orange’, which means that it is advised to only go to Belgium for necessary trips.

The Netherlands took that decision in response to measures announced by Belgium for the provinces of South Holland, North Holland and Utrecht. These provinces have been designated by Belgium as ‘red zones’.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extra advice for people who come from the Brussels-Capital Region, the city of Antwerp, the province of Liège and the province of Walloon Brabant and are traveling to the Netherlands. These people are asked to go into home quarantine for ten days, because the number of infections is very high in those regions.

“Are you from another area in Belgium? Then you do NOT have to go into quarantine when you return to the Netherlands ”, the government writes on the website NederlandWereldwijd.nl. It is not yet known whether these measures will affect the races that Dutch riders and teams will ride in the coming weeks.

Press conference
A press conference is scheduled for Monday evening between Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge. It is expected that corona measures will be further tightened throughout the Netherlands. Any consequences for cycling races in the Netherlands, such as the BinckBank Tour and the Amstel Gold Race, are not yet known.
