Netherlands Foreign Minister Sigrid Kaag resigned after the lower house of the Dutch parliament passed a motion against the government over its handling of evacuations from Afghanistan. Kaag admitted Wednesday that due to the way the government had reacted to the Taliban’s military expansion into Kabul, some Afghan nationals who had worked as translators or in other duties for the Dutch military had not been evacuated.
Kaag was part of the outgoing government chaired by Mark Rutte; despite victory in the elections last March the outgoing prime minister failed to create a new governing coalition.
