Payment app Tikkie processed 130 million payment requests this year for a total value of €5.5 billion. ABN AMRO, the owner of Tikkie, reports on Thursday. A payment request amounts to an average of 41.84 euros, more than 3 euros more than in 2021.
In the six years of Tikkie’s existence, the app has already processed more than €16.8 billion in payment requests. ABN AMRO says payment app usage is still growing strongly. According to the bank, previous years’ records are broken every year.
The busiest Tikkie day this year was Friday November 25th. Back then, people were sending nearly 530,000 tikkies, compared to 350,000 payout requests on an average day. According to ABN AMRO, this is not only because many Dutch people received their salary on this day, but also because Orange won their game against USA during the World Cup.
According to ABN AMRO, payment requests were paid quickly last year: 89% within a day and 63% within an hour. According to the bank, 36% of payment requests are even paid within five minutes.
ABN AMRO sees that tikkies are mostly sent to sort out food and groceries. So these are the three most common descriptions for Tikkie payment requests.
The opening of the company after corona can be seen in the payment requests
Social trends are also clearly reflected in the descriptions. Last year, the end of the corona measures led to a revival of celebrations and festivals. Tikkies for ‘coins’, ‘drinks’ and ‘carnival’ can be traced back to this.
As the company reopened, the babysitter was also able to return to work. The term ‘careful’ has therefore entered the top ten most used Tikkie descriptions this year.
According to ABN AMRO, this year also marks a special milestone. The Dutch donated €4.2m to Giro555 for Ukraine via Tikkie.
