The Dutch Data Protection Authority warns against the use of smart doorbells – Image and sound – News

In theory, the Dutch Data Protection Authority is quite right. However, it seems a bit sad to me. They shout and warn that it is not allowed, but we all know that it is impossible to comply.

Compliance is fine: do not use a doorbell with camera. An alternative is a higher camera, aimed only at your own yard.

Especially when the police actually think otherwise, because that is the party that has to enforce it.

Where use of data made available by citizens is permitted, but must not be an obligation or expectation in the performance of the work.

In my view it has little effect to say this. First come up with a solid plan on how to solve this.

It is not up to the AP to solve problems. Citizens can do that very well themselves, as mentioned. It’s just a reluctance, because a doorbell camera is so easy and cheap. It is then easy to pass it off to the AP, because it does not come with a ready-made-not-more-expensive-or-more complicated solution.
