None of the Dutch nominees managed to cash in on a nomination at the Grammy Awards in Las Vegas. DJs Tiësto and Afrojack both had a chance to win the Grammy for the best dance record, the July dead composer Louis Andriessen had a posthumous chance to win a Grammy in the contemporary classical composition category.
Andriessen was considered one of the most influential post-war composers of his generation and was nominated with the album Louis Andriessen: The Only One, his penultimate composition. The work, played by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, fell short of Shaw: Narrow Sea by American composer and singer Caroline Shaw.
Dj Tiësto was nominated with his The Business and Afrojack had a chance at a Grammy with his Hero, a collaboration with David Guetta. The prize for best dance record eventually went to the Australian dance trio Rüfüs Du Sol, for their Alive.
Bruno Mars wins Song of the Year
The Song of the Year went to Silk Sonic, a collaboration between Bruno Mars and Anderson Paak, for the single Leave The Door Open† Billie Eilish, Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran and Lil Nas X, among others, were also nominated in that category, as was singer Olivia Rodrigo. The latter did win in the best new artist category. Singer Jon Batiste won with his We Are the Album of the Year.
Other notable awards went to the Foo Fighters (Best Rock Album, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Performance). Foo Fighters drummer passed away a week and a half ago Taylor Hawkins unexpected. Due to his death, the rock band also did not perform at the ceremony.
Comedian Louis CK, who came under fire in 2017 for sexual misconduct, won in the best comedy album category.
