The Dutch are again sending more packages and fewer letters NOW

The continued growth of the parcel market also offset the contraction in letterbox mail last year. The annual Post & Parcel Monitor of the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) states that the amount of parcels sent grew by just under 13 percent.

The ever-growing parcel market generated 10 percent more turnover for postal companies. In 2019, a total of 576 million packages were shipped in the Netherlands.

PostNL remains the largest provider of domestic parcels. The vast majority of consumers send their parcels via PostNL, and companies often turn to DHL.

The size of the letterbox post contrasts sharply with that of the parcel market. On average, the Dutch sent seven letters and cards per person last year. That was eight a year earlier.
